I am a writer, editor, and graduate student at the University of Central Florida. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s in Rhetoric and Composition and a Professional Writing Certificate, both of which are scheduled to be awarded in May 2025.
My passion for writing and editing drove me to specialize in the writing and editing process through my graduate program. Writers communicate their thoughts, visions, and passions, with their audience through the writing process. Through the editing process, editors provide clarity by bridging the gap between the writer and audience; helping the audience see the writer’s visions, passions, and thoughts with clarity while keeping the original intent the same. I enjoy seeing documents go from concepts to fully polished final drafts by utilizing these two processes that go hand in hand.
As a rhetorician and communicator, I believe that writing and words connect us as humans. Through one stroke of a pen or tap of a keyboard, we are connected through the human experience. Communication is the key to understanding the world around us. However, effective and clear communication is what allows us to understand each other fully. This is why I focus on clarity, integrity, and empathy when writing and editing. Those three values allow me to see a piece from multiple points of view while keeping the audience in mind. Within this E-Portfolio, you will find many pieces that I have approached with those values at the forefront of my attention. Please, feel free to click around and explore!
This Professional Pitch Video was created for my Capstone course, ENC 6952. For this assignment, I was tasked with finding a job listing, specifically one I would like to apply for then pitching myself to the hiring team. The position I decided on was a Copywriter, Creative Services position for Publix Super Markets. After I decided on the position, I was tasked with researching the company, writing a pitch, and presenting it successfully while keeping my audience in mind. I learned a great deal when creating this assignment, I found that just like with writing it is important to put the audience first when filming and I discovered that I needed to be much more emotive in the video format. This video is available in 1080pHD if your device supports that resolution.
I am committed to bringing joy to others through my work as a writer by focusing on writing and editing with clarity, integrity, and empathy, to create a positive impact on the world.
I do this by helping others communicate their thoughts, treating people with grace and understanding, and discussing clear guidelines within my writing and editing work. I will work to be kind to others, help those struggling to communicate, and work to establish the constraints I am to conduct myself within.
After graduation, my main goal is to obtain a position in the professional industry as a technical writer and editor. My future goals are as follows:
The master’s in Rhetoric and Composition program at the University of Central Florida has prepared me to achieve these goals through my academic studies. I worked closely with my advisor to ensure I took courses that provided hands-on experience with technical and professional writing through learning theory and application. This E-Portfolio is filled with examples from my graduate education alone. My studies on the writing and editing process along with my courses have provided me with a firm foundation on what it truly means to be a writer and an editor and how to conduct myself as such. I have been taught how to write proposals, a journal special issue, and case study analyses, as well as how to edit technical documents, write technical documents, and conduct research. I have also been taught how to work in a team environment and independently.
As part of my ENC 5920 course Colloquium in Rhetoric and Composition, I was tasked with creating a Professional Development Plan. In that PowerPoint Presentation, I explain in detail my future goals, provide a S.W.O.T. Analysis, a GAP analysis, and a reflection on why I chose the PowerPoint format.
